The Kootingal Roosters league tag side went back to back in the Second Division Shield this season, and even more impressively the girls haven’t dropped a game this season, going undefeated all the way.

Last season the Roosters met Uralla in a grand final at Werris Creek, and this year was exactly the same after the two sides continued theior dominance in the new two tiered competition.
After coming from behind the steal victory last year the girls didn’t leave it to chance this time, crossing for two tries in each half to run out winners 20-4.
Skipper Mandy Sullivan was named player of the final after cutting the Uralla defence apart a few times with searching runs down the middle as well as showing typically excellent organisation and on field leadership.
“Going back to back is great,” Sullivan said.
“It is always a tough game against Uralla and we needed to stand up in defence today.”
Geoff Sharpe took over the coches role mid way through last season and after having them for the full year has imparted a lot of experience and gamesmanship to the girls, as well as a lot of fitness training.
“Because of Geoff (Sharpe) we knew we would be fitter than everybody else,” Sullivan said.
“We knew if we could stick with them we could ware them down.”
Sharp, who is currently nursing a broken thumb after coming out of retirement at the end of the season for the Roosters, also has the girls playing with a lot more structure as they add plenty to the already strong Roosters club culture.
“Everyone is willing to put in and bust ass for each other,” Sullivan said.
“They are a great bunch of girls and we have a lot of fun.”
The skipper thought that Kendall Horne and Jess Smith had big games in the middle, while wingers Alex White and Jody Howarth also performed well, while Nick Sullivan played through injury for the big game.
Sharpe thought that Ash Allen’s kicking game was also on song, while Player of the Year Kim Resch scored two tries and was her usual dangerous self with ball in hand.
“We had good go forward and our kick chase was excellent,” Sharpe said.
“We made a few mistakes in attack but we were really good with tagging and cover defence.”
“Kim (Resch) rarely misses a tag in defence and was probably the only girl in the comp that would have caught that pass for the last try.”
“Mandy (Sullivan) was outstanding as well.”
Uralla coach Paul Martin said that while Kootingal deserved the premiership the scoreline didn’t reflect the match, as he named Alyce Walsh and Ella Waugh as the Tigers best.
