Carinya Christian School classrooms were transformed into a fictional wonderland as the students celebrated the Australian Children’s Book Council Book Week.
Thursday was book day at the school and characters from Harry Potter to Batman and even princesses from every fairy tale arrived in costume in a celebration of literature.
Students from Kindergarten to year four participated in the event and head of junior school Brett Sharrock said it was a big hit with the kids.
“We run book day to promote a love of learning and reading,” he said.
“We want to kids to enjoy reading and to have a love for reading and we know that the research clearly states if kids are reading more, their vocabulary is increasing and so does academic performance in terms of writing.
“We want them to enjoy books and have fun.”
”The kids had a wonderful day, we had 200 to 250 parents come and visit the school and spend time with their kids in the classroom, they enjoyed being with them, reading with them and doing activities surrounding books.”
We want them to enjoy books and have fun.
