The feature sale is held in memory of industry ambassador and fellow auctioneer Jason Goodwin, who died from a heart attack in 2008 at the age of 36.
Since then, the Tamworth Livestock Selling Agents Association has awarded a shield in memory of their “great mate” and the annual event has grown in both size and reputation.
Producers must enter a minimum of 10 lambs in a pen, in three different weight categories: export, medium trade and light trade. The best overall pen also wins the J V Goodwin Memorial Trophy.
TLSAA spokesman Simon Burke said competition was expected to be tough again this year, with past winners backing up to defend their titles and seasonal conditions vastly improved from last year.
“The quality of lambs at this sale is always very good. Last year we had 1000 lambs and the judges said they were as good as they’d seen anywhere on the eastern seaboard of Australia.
“It really is a showcase of the best lambs in northwestern NSW.”
Lamb producers should call their local TLSAA agent for details on how to enter or attend.
