The fourth annual rugby league charity cup match, played at Scone this year, saw the Hunter Valley Broncos take on Oxley Cods in wet conditions.
While both sides struggled to maintain possession, they managed to show ferocious defence to thwart several scoring opportunities.
Seeking a first win in the fixture, the Broncos stormed out to a 10-0 lead before the Cods hit back to cut the deficit to four points at half-time.
Ex-NRL player and Oxley LAC Detective Sergeant Jason Darcy said it was an important event for officers.
"It builds up the morale and mateship that we have; we work alongside these guys and [decided to] get together once a year for a game of footy," he said.
"It's a special event this one because it's the Richardson Memorial, which means a lot to all of us.
"So we're all digging in deep."
The match paid respect to Sergeant Geoffrey Richardson, who tragically passed away in March while on his way to a pursuit at Allandale in the Hunter region.
Sergeant Richardson was a highly-regarded police officer who served with courage, honour and distinction for almost two decades.
In previous years, the charity cup match has, along with the support of the local business community, raised more than $30,000 for various charities.
Over $9000 went to Jordan Lane-Robb Appeal following last year's clash.
