The pair were named joint winners of the Gillies Medal after both polling 21 votes.
It was a big night for the all-conquering Nomads with Ellis-Cluff also winning the Gerry Griffiths medal for the competition’s leading goal scorer, while young gun Cameron Graham won the Rising Star award.
Ellis-Cluff was “pretty happy” but surprised to be recognised as the competitions best and fairest.
“There are a few boys in our team in particular that I thought would have polled higher than me. I take it all the same. It is good to get a bit of recognition for the club,” he said.
Kangaroos coach Tony Bishop said the Gillies Medal was great reward for Leon.
“He absolutely deserves the accolade. He's been consistent for the last couple of seasons,” he said.
He described the midfield as “an athlete”.
“He's built for the game. He's tall, he's strong, he's agile on the ground and strong overhead too,” he said.
