The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service has used this year's Olympic city as the inspiration for its annual Tamworth ball, promising a night of music, dancing, fine food and a few surprises.
This year's event is on Saturday, September 24, at the William Cowper Campus and planning is already well under way.
"Rio seemed like the perfect theme this year, given the Olympics and the fact it's considered one of the most exciting and colourful cities in the world - all about fun," event coordinator Jeff Galbraith said.
Against a vibrant backdrop, reflecting the sights, sounds and colour of Brazil's premier destination, the evening will include Latin entertainer Richard Valdez and the ‘can't-help-but-dance vibe’ of premier Sydney band Jellybean Jam.
Tamworth's Le Pruneau will swap its beret for a feathered head-dress for the night, designing a South American-inspired three-course feast, with beer and wine included in the ticket price.
The auction promises something for everyone, including an evening gown from Just Irresistable which will actually be up for grabs prior to the event, so the highest bidder can wear her prize to the ball.
Another sought-after item on the night will be a round of golf for four people at Ellerston, rated in the top three courses in Australia - and the world's top 100 - and only ever played by a select few.
The raffle also has a tempting prize up for grabs, one lucky winner packing their bags for Spain and Portugal thanks to Insight Travel, with spending money included.
Single Builders, Pulse Kitchens and Tamworth Tilehouse are this year's presenting sponsors, but sponsorships are still available for businesses wanting to get involved.
Tickets are $150, or a table of 10 for $1400 – which will get you a three course meal, as well as wine and beer – and can be purchased at: www.rescuehelicopter.com.au
Meanwhile, the 16th annual Ride for the Chopper ride is also being held in September.
Riders will set off from Dubbo on the 16th and finish up in Tamworth on the 23rd.
To register, volunteer, sponsor or for more information on the ride head to: 2016 Ride for the Chopper or contact Michael Wilson on (02) 6764 9400.
