The Lions head to Gunnedah on Saturday a win away from topping Tier 2 and earning the sixth and final spot in the play-offs.
They head in two points ahead of Barraba and Tamworth, who match up at Barraba in the other game and are ready to swoop in should the Lions slip-up against the Red Devils.
“It's not going to be an easy game,” Lions co-coach Nick Rees said.
“Gunnedah are going to come out hard.”
The two couldn't be split in the first round, although Rees said they aren't taking anything from that game. The conditions were atrocious that day.
Minimising their mistakes will be a big focus.
“Small mistakes have been hurting us,” Rees said.
“If we can just hold onto the ball and create good phase play we should be right.”
The Red Devils will be looking to finish off what has been a tough season on a positive note, and can if they play as well as they did against Tamworth last week, coach Jason Waerea believes, get the result.
It will meanwhile be a big day on and off the field at Barraba.
Not only will the Rams be chasing the win, they'll also be celebrating a special milestone for stalwart Geoff White and reminiscing the feats of the all conquering 1986 side. Their deeds live long in the Rams’ history, starting a run of four-straight premierships that has been matched but never surpassed.
White was part of that 1986 side and will be playing his 400th game for the Rams.
