The Australian Red Cross Blood Service invited local councils across Australia to compete to see who could make the most donations. I just couldn’t be prouder of the Council team for showing Australia what can happen when you put your mind to a good cause.
We held a celebratory lunch at the Tamworth War Memorial Town Hall to congratulate staff for their efforts and were joined by staff from the Australian Red Cross Blood Service including ‘Billie the Blood Drop’.
The accolades continue after the news that Tamworth Regional Council’s famous Tamworth Country Music Festival was awarded Silver in the Festival and Events category of the Regional Tourism Awards.
The award recognises festivals, events and exhibitions that attract 50,000 visitors, enhance the profile and appeal of the destination in which they are held and create a significant economic impact for the destination.
The Nundle Woollen Mill was awarded Bronze in the Cultural Tourism category and was deservedly awarded the Judges Award at the event. It is fantastic to see the efforts of our region get acknowledged.
In other news, Council has joined the State-wide initiative Scores on Doors. The program aims to improve food safety standards and to reduce incidents of food-borne illness in the retail food industry.
Council’s Health Officers inspect all food business in the region once a year to ensure they meet hygiene and food safety standards. Once inspected, businesses are provided with a rating and a certificate to display within their business. The rating considers such things as food temperature control, food prepared in advance of service, food handler hygiene, cleaning and sanitisation and pest control.
We marked Local Government Week 2016 with the launch of a social media campaign showcasing the wide range of services and facilities TRC delivers across the region.
There are so many different aspects to Council, we decided it would take a month to get through it all! Each day in August, we will post about a different part of Council’s operations on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/TamworthRegionalCouncil/ and Instagram @tamworthregionalcouncil and we’ve called it 31 Days 31 Ways! Why not take a look, I’m sure you’ll learn something new about how Council serves its community.
Thanks for reading and I look forward to updating you again next time.
