THE bush fire danger period will officially start on the Northern Tablelands on Monday August 1. It means residents in the Armidale Regional, Glen Innes Severn, Inverell, Tenterfield, Uralla and Walcha local government areas will need to obtain a permit before burning off.

"While it is important to continue hazard reduction, we have all seen the devastation that bush fires can inflict on a community,” NSW RFS Superintendent Steve Mepham said.
“Residents can ask their local Fire Control Centre for assistance in carrying out safe hazard reductions and for advice about whether they need a Bush Fire Hazard Reduction certificate.”
He also urged people to start preparing their properties for the bush fire season by removing flammable materials from around homes, clearing gutters and checking hoses. To check fire danger ratings head to www.rfs.nsw.gov.au
