REDUCING suicide figures is the aim of a new fundraising campaign from an animal medicine organisation, Zoetis.

The company will donate five dollars from every cattle or sheep vaccine or drench sold from Monday to October 30, up to $100,000, to mental health charity beyondblue, in an effort to reduce rural suicide rates.
“Our staff travel more than two million kilometers each year, servicing all types of farms and households, in some of the most remote areas of Australia,” general manager Lance Williams said.
“They recognise the highs and lows faced by resellers and producers in regional and remote Australia.
“With rural communities facing tough seasonal conditions, ever-changing commodity prices and the tyranny of distance, the mental health of rural residents is of growing concern.”
Although the the incidence of psychological distress and symptoms of mental health conditions are similar between major cities and rural areas, suicide rates are higher in regional, rural and remote areas
