So was the challenge presented to the Years 8, 9, 10 and 11 German and French students at PLC Armidale when the concept of the Starry Night of Languages was conceived.
A capacity audience of PLC Armidale parents, staff, students and supporters in the Astra Arts Centre witnessed the culmination of months of preparation in a very impressive collection of short skits and presentations, which showcased the language skills of those studying German and French at the College.
The inaugural event was the brainchild of PLC Armidale German and French teachers.
Not only did the girls speak, perform and entertain with confidence in the respective languages, they had even crafted the script for each skit, designed the props and performance.
In addition to the performances, the cultural experience presented the audience with the opportunity to sample some of the culinary delights from both countries, which were prepared by PLC Armidale Hospitality students and staff, Sarojini Kumar and Paula Goode.
The evening also showcased opportunities available to PLC Armidale students in undertaking an Exchange Program in another country.
Year 11 students Sarah Mailler and Bronte Hodge spoke about their time in Goppingen, Germany over the past summer holidays and Brianna Merritt from Guyra who has recently joined the College, shared her experiences as a Rotary Youth Exchange student in Switzerland in 2015/16.
“This outstanding initiative was much more than an event.
It was a showcase of PLC Armidale’s commitment to preparing students to take a leading role as global citizens in an increasingly connected world.
We also have an appreciation of living and learning in Armidale as a diverse regional community which has many cultures and embraces international influence,” commented proud PLC Armidale Principal, Mrs Nicola Taylor.
The appreciation and understanding of various languages and cultures continues at PLC Armidale when the Junior School hosts its annual Open Afternoon on Thursday September 15, this year entitled “Around the World in One Afternoon”.
