We had another very successful year with visitors from around the region enjoying the exhibition and raising over $15000. We are very pleased that all funds raised are going directly to the Western Region (NSW) Drought Fund to help farming families again this year.
Thank you for your efforts - we cannot raise the funds we do without such valued support.

Barnaby & the Nationals
I would like to make a few more comments about Mr Joyce and agriculture to follow on from an excellent letter by Dr Gunning. (NDL Friday 15 July 2016)
In my opinion, Mr Joyce and the Nationals don’t know or understand how CSG can destroy our ground water resources or understand the long term effects of digging up prime agricultural land for coal mining. Mr Joyce doesn’t believe in climate change and (I believe) he has done very little to assist farmers to meet the challenges of the tough times ahead.
Why keep promoting live cattle exports when we can quadruple our returns by exporting processed meat? Did another abattoir close in New England last week?
Has Mr Joyce spoken to the people who work at the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority to see if they WANT to move from Canberra to Armidale? It’s no good forcing people to move. Some or all of them may resign.
What are Mr Joyce and the Nationals doing to solve the ongoing problems with the Native vegetation Act. It appears to be in complete shambles at the moment. Mr Joyce wants to build more dams. More dams will be of little use if our climate is going to become drier. What dams we have are causing long term problems relating to salting of irrigated lands and changed flooding regimes which have dire consequences for a range of plants and animals.
A better solution is more efficient use of the water resources we currently have and don’t mess with the ground water by drilling for gas.
What has Mr Joyce and the Nationals done to secure a better return on milk production for dairy farmers throughout Australia?
What are Mr Joyce and the Nationals doing to address the Australia wide problems of rampant feral pigs, goats, cats and wild dogs?
It’s time Mr Joyce and the Nationals got back to basics and started supporting agriculture and looking after OUR COUNTRY, instead of paying lip services to the Liberals, who have little interest in country people.

Saying goodbye
Thank you for asking for comments on the new look Leader. Firstly, I appreciate the new, easier to read print with real spaces between words. Also, I hope the practice of only accepting real names on Webwords entries prevails. As a letter writer of many years, bound by the rules of identification, this is a matter I have fought for over the years. Secondly, it looks like we have to say a very sad farewell to some wonderful people who have been good and supportive friends over many years. I am referring, most of all, to Ann Newling and Rebecca Belt and the wonderful photographers, Barry and Geoff, and the very friendly people on the front desk. Of course, there were others, who have already gone, who provided willing support for the many community groups and activities in this wonderful city of ours. Thank you all, and, to those of you who are retiring, there are many organisations who would welcome you with open arms.
