I know the referenced Digger very well and count him as a mate, however, Mr Windsor’s comments should be understood to be an attack on all returned Diggers, including my father, who was a prisoner of war in Changi and the Burma Railway, from where only half of them returned home.
For one moment, let’s reflect on those poor buggers, who, upon being discharged, were given a few bob and a train ticket home.
That was it – no counselling or support in those days.
Thank God things have changed and Mr Schofield and many others today have resources to assist them in their recoveries, be it physiological or any other ailment.
Mr Windsor’s approach is very personal.
Fancy a guy who wants to represent this community telling me that my dad might have had some issues because of his three-and-a-half years’ treatment as a POW.
He and many others certainly did, but they got on with the job and were respected for their commitment to their country.
Shame on you, Mr Windsor, and I hope all relations of returned soldiers feel the same as me.
Remember, if you sleep with a dog, there is a fair chance you will attract fleas and other low life.
And, by the way, I am not a member of any political party.
