A full house packed the John Clift Stand at the Tamworth Racecourse to celebrate a season that delivered the Hogg/Silver Shield to the Zone.
The Hogg Silver Shield is named after current Country Cricket NSW chairman Ian Hogg and Australian board member Mike Silver.
It is decided (on a points basis) from all the Country Championships run throughout the season.
Winning the Bradman Cup (for a second time) in Newcastle sent the shield to the CNZ for Mike Silver to officially present it to CNZ chairman Terry Psarakis and secretary Hayley Bullock.
That the Zone is blessed with some outstanding young cricketing talent was evident on the night.
Terry Psarakis said the Zone will only grow and become stronger with the advent of some outstanding young girls into the CNZ Under 15 and 18 sides.
They also had success at Country Championships as well. with the likes Dion Marsh, Zoe Fleming Lara Graham, Kareena Dawson and Isabella Cameron coming through the ranks.
Erin Osborne presented the Coleman Shield to Taylah Knight.
Named after former Australian Test and One Day wicketkeeper Leone Coleman the Coleman Shield went to a talented young allrounder who represented Central North, ACT/Country and was named in the Team of the Carnival at the National Under 15 Championships. She was also named in the Australian Under 15 Development squad.
Ironically, Erin Osborne had won the Coleman Shield three times as a young player coming through the CNZ ranks.
Former South Tamworth top order bat and handy off-spinner James Psarakis received the Gleeson Medal.
Now in Sydney playing first grade for Randwick Psarakis represented Central North and ACT/NSW at the Australian Under 19 Championships. He is a previous winner of an award also won by current Test and One Day bowler Josh Hazlewood multiple Country player of the year Tom Groth and former Tamworth skipper Jeff Cook who led the city to two Country Cups.
The Gleeson Shield is named after former mystery test spinner John Gleeson.
