A composite team of Brisbane, Sydney and one Daptonite, the Thunder roared to keep their Sydney rivals runless.
Jonathan Hall, appointed Thunder delegate, was delighted with the win, especially the pitching effort of Mitch Thompson.
“He did an outstanding job,” Hall said.
“It was a good finish for us. We hit the ball well right through the whole weekend.
“This is my second year here.
Most of the side has been coming three years but this is the first time we’ve come as the Thunder.
“It’s made up of players from Brisbane, the majority of them from my club Carina Red Sox.
“We’ve got a couple who played in the ABL for the Brisbane Bandits and Canberra Cavalry too.
“But most play grade in Brisbane. It’s all been great fun.
“ Tamworth put on a great show, had good weather and the tournament is well run.
“Everyone plays the game the right way too. A great mix of serious and having fun.”
C Grade was won by the Muppets with a 5-4 win over Deadstars Young Guns.
It was a tough day for the Deadstars, with their main side losing the A Grade final to Interport Masters.
Interport Masters started with Dean Jones on the mound and he was relieved by Josh Roberts as they kept the Deadstars batters relatively quiet in the 12-2 win.
E Grade was an unlikely win for the Armidale-based RAMS.
They had no thoughts of playing in the final overnight but when they beat unbeaten Kissing Pt Angels 12-nil yesterday morning their whole day changed.
The Angels threw the game, believing the RAMS would be easier to beat than another side but were beaten 9-8 in the final by a fired-up RAMS.
F Grade was won 11-3 by The Beers over Cougars USDC while Tamworth side Knights went through the carnival undefeated in D Division to beat Thundercocks 8-6 in the final.
Aaron Harding and Nathan Clegg organised the Knights, a team of mostly former Tamworth players who don’t play in the local competition due to a range of factors such as family and work commitments.
“Nathan and I organised the side,” Harding said
“Grant Sippel and Simon Norvill play for Gunnedah but the rest of us don’t play.
‘We haven’t got the time – either work or family commitments of a Saturday – and cannot commit to be there every week.
“We thought we’d have a run around instead and had awesome fun plus a few beers.”
JC’s Legends might also add another team to their 2017 tournament as well, team organiser Steve Davison said.
“We had three teams this year and will nominate a fourte for next year,” he said.
“We had another great weekend.”
