Assistant principal Genienne Ellis said they commemorated the day each year at the school and this year students spoke about the meaning for them.
Elder Neville Sampson did the Welcome to Country, with every class learning about the significance of National Sorry Day.
Mrs Ellis said every student wrote a response about the day and one student from each year read out their responses at the assembly on Thursday May 26.
The 3/4E class also prepared a PowerPoint presentation based on the Archie Roach song, Took The Children Away.
"We want to children to understand the significance of National Sorry Day, what happened in the past and how it has impacted on the Aboriginal people of Australia today," she said.
Mrs Ellis said they had about 30 per cent of the student population identifying as Indigenous, so it was an important day for the school.
"It's about understanding reconciliation," she said.
"Each class decorated the hall with banners that they had made, which really brightened up the hall with the work of the amazing talented teachers and creative students."
The assembly was followed by an afternoon tea for parents and visitors.
