The trio of Thoroughbreds run on for Greater Northern Tigers in tomorrow morning’s Tier 2 AAMI Country Championship semi-final (11am kickoff) against Greater Southern Stars at Dubbo’s Apex Oval.
Then on Sunday they muscle up against Muswellbrook Rams in a top of the table Aplus Contracting Hunter Valley Group 21 eighth round clash at Muswellbrook’s Olympic Park.
Scone is unbeaten and Muswellbrook outright second after just the one loss to the Thoroughbreds.
“It’s a big weekend,” Ritter said yesterday.
“I’m looking forward to it.
“I’m looking forward to going into camp with the boys (Tigers) on Friday, having a training run and then playing the semi-final on Saturday.
“It would be great to win that.
“Playing at 11am is a little earlier than normal but it gives us a bit more time to get home and prepare for Muswellbrook.
“It’s a big local derby, top-of-the-table game and will be a hard game, especially at Muswellbrook.
“It’s going to be good to see where we are at.”
It comes on the back of what will be an extremely tough Tier 2 Country Championship semi against a side with a few former NRL stars such as Ray Cashmere and Jacob Loko.
Ritter and the Greater Northern Tigers are coming off a 62-nil thumping from Newcastle but have a few changes and can bounce back, Ritter reckons.
“We had a good session up there (in Tamworth) on Monday night,” he said.
“The hardest thing for us is getting everyone together to get a few combinations in such a short time.
“But the boys are coming together well.
“Having Joey (Griffiths) back will be good.
“He and Guy (Mepham) have played together before and are good players.
“We’ve got a good side but it’s going to be tough.
“We will be the underdogs but if we start well we can win.”
