National Simultaneous Storytime saw local children, their parents and carers gather at the library for a morning of fun and games yesterday.
Now in its 16th year, the national event is held to promote the value of reading and literacy while promoting an Australian children’s book.
This year’s chosen book was I Got A Hat, which was read simultaneously at more than 3000 locations across the nation.
In addition to the reading, children were able to participate in fun and games along with a craft activity of colouring in their very own chef’s hat.
“It’s held throughout Australia on the same day and same time and it’s the same book,” Tamworth customer experience librarian Narelle Lightfoot said.
“A lot of the preschools, schools and playgroups get involved with it and read the story at the same time.
“It’s a really good promotion for reading and encourages parents and carers to make an effort for that day or morning and come along to story time and sit and read.
“It’s been a fantastic response. We’ve always had a class come from a school or we have always gone to visit them.
“We have our regional libraries participating too. People make a big effort for this one in the community.”
