The Joyce supporters pointed to section 44 of the Constitution which prevents state or federal public servants or anyone that is in receipt of a commonwealth pension from contesting federal seats in an election. But both candidates said they were no longer being paid by the government.
Mr Windsor had been receiving a pension, while Mr Goldstein was a school teacher.
“The dirty tactics have started and these types of things are little indicators of some degree of stress from Barnaby’s camp,” Mr Windsor said.
Mr Joyce’s office yesterday said the MP was not involved in the decision by supporters to raise the issue and did not encourage it.
