The day was a wonderful autumn day; you couldn't wish for better weather.
The sun was drying up the early morning dew, clouds dispersing, trees standing still from lack of wind and crowds gathering to witness competitive and heart pumping photo finishes as students race against students for the finish line.
Everything was organised for one of the year's most challenging enduring events.
With house flags flying informing participants where to gather; having the recording desks lined up ready to hand out ribbons of first, second and third and hearing the voice of one of our wonderful sport coordinators, all set the atmosphere for a wonderful, exciting and challenging cross country course.
All students were assembled in their houses and eagerly awaited to run the two or three kilometre course as their ages were called.
The challenging track with its undulating rocky and hilly landscape provided runners of all ages with a course of unreliability, speed, exhaustion, hurdles and an opportunity to run a section of the rough track without interruptions, provided competitors the opportunity to make up for any lost ground.
Starting off with year six running the full course, really set the bar high with record breaking times and 100 per cent competitors completing the run.
As the senior students lined up for their race, the spectators stood and moved to the sideline cheering, screaming, chanting, waving, encouraging their child to run the race, to finish what they had started, to do their best, to feel good about winning or losing.
The positive feel from the sideline was empowering and could be felt as all students crossed the finish line, whether they were first or last.
Working our way through to the junior years, crowds didn't dwindle, but grew.
Spectators were there to see all students from all grades endure the two or three kilometre run.
The day was a wonderful success due to collegial communication and organisation.
Everyone worked together from staff to students.
That's the great thing with Hillvue Public School.
It's not just teachers working with teachers. It's teachers working with students - bringing on board their skills, abilities and ideas. How can an event be successful if all parties have not been included?
Congratulations to Jacqui and her team for a wonderful well run and coordinated cross country event. Even the staff had fun and were keen to have a run.
Well done.
