WALHALLOW Public School students have had a fantastic start to term 2.

Students from kindergarten to year 6 traveled to Dubbo for an overnight excursion.

First up was a visit to Old Dubbo Gaol where they learned all about the prison's history and experienced life as an inmate.

After that it was off to Taronga Western Plains Zoo to get settled for the night at ZoosnooZ - a sleepover at the zoo. Students were treated to a night tour of the zoo where they learned about native Australian animals.

After camping in tents they spent the next morning touring the zoo and seeing the animals before the zoo had even opened.

They all had a great time and have come home with lots of stories to tell.
