Mrs Watt was diagnosed with breast cancer in November last year and is currently undergoing weekly chemo treatment, soon moving on to radiation treatment.

The news was a shock to Mrs Watt, but she says she has received a huge amount of support from the community.

“There’s a fantastic group of doctors and nurses in Tamworth who have made the journey so much easier,” Mrs Watt said.

Backed by a team of about 20 supporters representing Tamworth HCF, Mrs Watt said she is “dragging her husband along” for the Mother’s Day Classic walk.

HCF is also backing the cause, donating $100 to the National Breast Cancer Foundation for every person who joins one of its teams across 105 locations nationally.

It has also pledged to donate $10 for every social media selfie tagged #walkwithus.

Mrs Watt said the support of her friends, family and community in her journey had kept her marching on and kept her positive.

“Without a community, what have you got?” she said.

Registrations for Tamworth’s Mother’s Day Classic will be from 8am-8.45am Sunday at Tamworth Sports Dome.

Entrants can take part in either a 3km walk or a 6km run.

Locals are also encouraged to drop in to the Tamworth HCF office on Peel St to leave a message of support on its Tree of Hope in-store.
