The annual Northern Schools Prime Lamb Competition was held in Tamworth this week, where 12 schools from Tamworth, Tenterfield, Glen Innes, Inverell, Bingara, Armidale, Uralla, Guyra and Narrabri battled it out for the honours.
With almost 120 lambs entered, competition was fierce, and the judges had their work cut out for them.
In the end, the Champion Lamb on the Hoof award went to Glen Innes High School, with Tenterfield High named reserve champion, and only half a point behind in the final result.
In the Heavyweight Lamb section (above 52kg), Glen Innes High again triumphed, while Tenterfield High claimed the medium weight (46kg- 52kg) title and Guyra Central School took home the Lightweight (46kg- 48kg) honours.
Darren Smith, from Farrer High School, said the number of schools compared favourably with past years and the students’ efforts had impressed the judges.
The results of the hook part of the competition, which was judged yesterday, won’t be known until next week.
