The 86-year-old won $20,000 in prizemoney on the Nine Network’s quiz show hosted by Eddie McGuire, after correctly answering the question of who played Oscar in the film version of The Odd Couple?
His answer was Walter Matthau.
The oldest winner title was previously held by 79-year-old Audrey Doyle who won $50,000 in 2010.
“I’ve always been interested in the show and answering questions at home,” Mr Forrest said.
“I managed to answer most at home, so thought I’d apply for the show. I wasn’t nervous when I was there, I just enjoyed it.”
To get to that stage, Mr Forrest attended two auditions, failing the first in Sydney but passing the second to be invited to Melbourne for filming on March 8.
His wife, Ruth, and granddaughter Anri Forrest were at the filming to congratulate him.
Mr Forrest, a retired policeman and insurance representative, with his wife, Ruth, hopes to see as much of Australia as possible with his winnings, starting with a trip to Darwin.
