Mrs Foran is the founder of the Friendly Faces Helping Hands Foundation and was in Tamworth on Friday for one very special fundraiser.
For the second year in a row, Victorian couple Mark and Shelley Ruff donated 10 per cent of the proceeds to the foundation from the sale of one of their horses.
Lot 202, Bulla Ava, was carrying the foundation’s hopes on Friday, reaching $25,000 in the sale ring, and guaranteeing Mrs Foran’s organisation a healthy $2500.
Mrs Foran said it was a great result and something she hadn’t expected for a second year.
“We’ve stayed friends (with the Ruffs) and we keep in touch, but I hadn’t expected this again,” she said.
“(This money) is such a huge thing for us and just keeps (the foundation) ticking along.”
It’s another milestone in what’s already shaping up as a big year for the foundation, which aims to assist rural and regional residents who have to travel to metropolitan areas for medical treatment.
Mrs Foran found out last month she’d been nominated in the regional category of the NSW Women of the Year Awards and later this month she’ll travel to Brisbane for A Polocrosse Affair, a black-tie fundraiser for the
foundation.
To top it off, Friendly Faces Helping Hands celebrated its fifth anniversary at the start of the year, and Mrs Foran says her passion for the cause continues to grow, knowing the difference they’re making.
“I was talking to a man the other day and he thanked me for our help, and I said, ‘well, I don’t really think we’ve done that much for you’,” she said.
“And he said, ‘just knowing you’re there and can help me at the drop of a hat is such a comfort’. It was such a nice thing to hear and things like that make it all worth while.”
