The Scott Thorning-skipped South team, which also included Paul Whitton, Nic Golledge and Stu Bayliss, beat the North Tamworth four, skipped by Phil O’Reilly 21-11 in Sunday’s CNDBA Final.
“It was a good weekend,” Thorning , better known as Pud, said
“We played consistently.
“Paul Latham filled in on Saturday for us too but having Nicko (Nic Golledge) was an absolute bonus. He was the X factor.”
Golledge had won a State pairs with fellow South Tamworth bowler Chris Herden at Port Macquarie before Christmas.
Thorning and Nathan Wise, now at St John’s Park and who stopped in to see his former South Tamworth teammates bowl their way to a CNDBA success, had also won a RNSWBA State Pairs title a few years ago.
For Golledge, the State Fours was something of a return to the greens.
“I haven’t been playing much since we won the State Pairs,” he said.
“We’ve been pretty busy at the South Bowlo (Country Music).”
Unfortunately for Golledge he won’t be able to play in any of the South teams entered in this weekend’s State Triples at Werris Creek and won’t play the Singles either.
“At this stage I’ll only play the State Pairs,” he said.
That’s disappointing, but work comes first for the talented barman.
“The Pairs and the pennants, that’s about it,” he said.
CNDBA publicity officer Tony Edmunds thanked Manilla Bowling Club for their hospitality over the weekend to stage the State Fours and is looking forward to the Manilla Pairs there on February 16.
His immediate aim is to ensure the CNDBA State Triples goes off as well at Werris Creek this weekend.
The following weekend is the annual Willow Tree Open Triples.
“Word on the grape vine is their green renovations were highly successful and their green is of exceptional standard,” he said.
He’s hoping bowlers from around the CNDBA support the Willow Tree Triples, the first carnival of the year.
