While the seniors were at Manilla competing in the State Fours, juniors from across the region turned out at West and playing for about $1000 in prizemoney.
Camden’s Sam Dukes won the Under 18s from Gunnedah’s Adam King, Tait Collier (Lennox Head) won the Under 16s from Sawtell’s Emily Lindner, with Glen Innes’s Haylee Ross prevailing in the Under 14s.
She beat fellow Glen Innes junior Britt Camp while Gulgong’s Lachlan Thompson won the Under 12s from Gunnedah’s Tim Thorning.
Best Performed Sessions prizes went to Zoe Stewart (West Tamworth), Owen Bennett (Tamworth City), Luke Woods (Gulgong) and Cody Ross (Gulgong)
West Tamworth’s Doug Stewart was delighted with the 25-strong field, a sharp rise from the dozen who played in the inaugural event 12 months ago.
With all games played under a first to 17 format, it enabled all players to play at least three games before the top two in each division played in Sunday’s finals.
“Although the weather was warm and quite windy in the afternoons, it went off well with some great bowls being played by the 25 junior participants,” Stewart said.
“Thanks must be said to all the juniors who participated and their parents and supporters for bringing them.
“Thanks also to all those who helped prepare the greens, mark the games and help prepare lunches from the West Tamworth Sports & Bowling Club. Their help was greatly appreciated and helped make it a wonderful weekend.”
Stewart said the regular Thursday afternoon CNDBA coaching and playing session continues this Thursday afternoon from 4.30pm at West Tamworth Sports & Bowling Club.
“All are welcome,” he said.
