Hood is in the middle of his busiest period of the year with cricket, where he takes on several roles across several clubs and platforms to keep the Tamworth district going strong.
Sportsman’s Warehouse’s Bob Barber said Hood had always been high on the list since the concept was taken on by the business last year.
“We have already had some amazing people take the award and Simon is another one,” Barber said.
“We chose him because he takes on jobs no one else will do and never sees anything as impossible to do.”
In summer, Hood’s diary is full of cricketing duties, including umpiring grade games every Saturday, coaching the Tamworth U12s side, organising and convening the annual Tamworth U14 carnival, managing the Tamworth Colts, as well as an ongoing 25-year affiliation with City United.
In the colder months, Hood can be found at Tamworth Rugby Park where he is the registrar and recorder for the Magpies, as well as being a member of the Lions Club and basically putting his hand up for anything else that people or organisations are looking for help with.
For Hood, sport has been a way of life for him and his family and, while it was an honour to be recognised, the administrator said that just having the ability to give back is enough reward.
“It is very nice to be recognised but that is not why I do it,” wheelchair user Hood said.
“I just enjoy doing it and getting involved in sport because I can’t play.
“I have got so much out of sport it is nice to give back,” he said.
