WHILE many children might hate going to the dentist, Tamworth kids are begging their parents to take them to Happy Smiles Dental Care just to get a glimpse of the built-to-scale Lego model of the practice.

The 16,000-piece model was a going-away gift from former dentist Matthew Lewis, who left the practice after more than three years to return to university and become an orthodontist.
All the staff are represented in the model, with accurate hair and clothing.
Dentist and owner of Happy Smiles, Richard Wise, said he was blown away when he first saw it.
“I had no idea he was building it, other than knowing Matthew was getting parcels of Lego all the time and ripping into him, saying he was too old to be playing with it,” Mr Wise said.
“The entire thing is amazing. Matthew’s attention to detail is phenomenal, even down to the dentist walking in the front door – that’s the dentist that will be replacing him in January.
“Even the carpet and the colour of the walls is spot on.
“I think the only one that’s not accurate is me. Lego me is bald, but I’ve still got a bit left. That might be my hairstyle in 10 years time.”
Mr Wise said there was something new to notice every time you looked at the model, like Darth Vader taking some time out from ruling the galaxy to get his teeth checked or Santa Claus on the roof dropping presents down the chimney.
“There is no such thing as a Lego dental chair, so he’s had to build things from his own imagination to get everything accurate,” he said.
“The reaction of the kids has been amazing, but then we get the grown-ups who are just as amazed because they understand what’s gone into it to make it.”
