Bradley Craig Mottram did not appear via video link during a brief mention of his case in Armidale Local Court on Wednesday afternoon, but the court was told he was being held in a special unit at the Metropolitan Remand and Reception Centre in Sydney.
Director of Public Prosecutions solicitor Elizabeth Lehman said the officer-in-charge of the investigation needed an adjournment until March to obtain forensic results.
“A partial brief has been served,” she told the court.
“Items have been sent to FASS (Forensic and Analytical Science Services) and they include blood-soaked items.”
Mottram is charged with the murder of his 51-year-old mother, Simone Mottram, on October 19 in Inverell.
Magistrate Karen Stafford granted the adjournment and ordered the outstanding items from the brief of evidence be served by February before the case returns to court in early March.
“He will appear via (audio-visual link),” she told the court.
“Bail not applied for, refused.”
Police allege the 19-year-old stabbed his mother several times in her Froude St home, before her body was found by police and paramedics.
The discovery was made after police found the teenage son on Copeton Dam Rd, more than 30 minutes away from the home, after he crashed his mother’s red Hyundai Getz down an embankment on a straight stretch of road.
He was arrested at the scene and is yet to make a bail application.
Strike Force Lotred was set up by New England detectives to investigate the circumstances surrounding Ms Mottram’s death.
