“I’m not against these people wanting to build a community centre of their own, although it may segregate these people further from the community.
“Also, I feel this would open the gates for more people to want their own community centres and feel it would be a good idea for council to introduce these people to our public community centre.
“I remind council that we have a beautiful, and wonderful, public community centre, and, as this belongs to the whole community, it would be an ideal place for these people to get together and maybe some of us could join in with them, rather than in private, further segregating them from our community and our culture.
“I would like to ask our council this question: Do we want these people to assimilate and become part of our community?
“It is up to us to show them how good our way of life is, and all about our culture, and when we have done our bit it is up to them to make their own decision.
“It has come to my attention that certain things in our country have been changed for these people in relation to Christmas, and not wanting to be in the presence of our national anthem when it is sung.
“These people come from a country we really know nothing about, but from what we gather, it was not good, so it is up to us to show them our way of life and our culture here in beautiful Australia.
“We know that they have come here to have a better life from the one they left behind, but we do not change our way of living or our culture for these people as they knew what Australia was like before they came.
“So, if there are any changes to be made, it should not be to the Australian way of life or our culture.
“In relation to what has happened recently in France, it would be a good idea not to grant the development of a private community centre in Tamworth, as not even the parents or the relatives at times know what their children are thinking from one day to the next.
“Remember, we do not really know the circumstances of where these people have come from.”
