Yesterday, Tamworth reached 37 degrees Celsius, according to official figures, and airconditioners across the city were running hot.
However, there was no such luxury for the trainers, drivers and spectators at the Tamworth Harness Racing Club’s afternoon meeting, who were keeping their cool any way they could.
For the likes of 17-year-old Tamworth driver Tom Ison (pictured), that included water breaks at regular intervals.
In Tamworth today, the mercury’s predicted to hit 40C, while up at Moree it’s expected to reach a withering 42C.
Even the New England will feel the heat, with Armidale bracing for an unseasonal 34C.
