Perfectly rated in front by Golden Guitar-winning driver Mark Callaghan, the Margot Lennox-trained four-year-old mare dashed to a 7.5m win from Tayspastime in exactly 2mins.
She completed the last 800m of the sprint in 58.9secs to win a berth in the November 28 $25,000 Final at Menangle.
Lennox was unsure if she would run her again before that November 28 Final.
“I could possibly give her a run next Tuesday at Newcastle,” she said.
“I’ll see how she pulls up. But she looks pretty comfortable,” she said while taking off all her mare’s harness gear.
Lennox hasn’t had the daughter of Always a Virgin for long but has already chalked up two wins and a second as well as a last-start fourth at Menangle to boot.
Callaghan won a Golden Guitar on Jaspers Gold at Tamworth a few years ago and enjoys returning to the paceway despite it being a four- hour trip.
“She looked the class horse on paper,” Callaghan told on-course interviewer Mark Lowe.
“Margot’s done a great job with her but hopefully the best is yet to come.
“She did run in a final last start (at Menangle) and acquitted herself well against some nice horses.
“Hopefully she will go better down there this time around.”
While Lennox train at Elrington, Callaghan trains at Morriset and had Strawberry Courage in the second of the AGL Energy Tabcorp Menangle Country Series Heats at Tamworth yesterday.
“He has drawn a little bit tricky but if he gets out the last 600m they’ll know he’s there,” he said before the race.
Strawberry Courage did get out but the winner, Starzzzinthenight, had bolted to an easy 8m win from stablemate Ultimate Art with Callaghan and Strawberry Courage 1.5m away third.
It was a good run considering Starzzzinthenight smashed the 1609m Tamworth track record by almost a second.
Youranut had held the sprint mark since December 28, 2012 when the Gerald Markey-trained gelding went 1min 57.30secs.
Starzzzinthenight obliterated that by stopping the clock at 1min 54.6secs.
“I had no idea we were going that fast,” trainer-driver Michael Formosa said after the win.
It was her third successive win after three seconds in a career that has yielded 11 wins in 26 starts.
Tony and Peter Missen also had another double day, winning the first two races with Aunty Nanna Kath and Fivestar Wally to complement their double the previous Thursday at their home track.
