THE Brisbane Broncos are unlikely to have a lot of support in Tamworth for their grand final contest tomorrow, but at least two dedicated fans will be cheering them on in their bid for a seventh NRL premiership.

Jodie Thompson and daughter Jazmyne will be watching the big game at a family gathering, but they’ll be the only Broncos supporters there.
It doesn’t faze Jodie though, who’s followed the Brisbane-based rugby league team since 1989, the year after they entered the competition.
She was born and bred in Tamworth but says league great Wally Lewis “converted” her, both to the Broncos and the Maroons.
In the years since, she’s collected a lot of team memorabilia and even managed to meet Lewis once at Sydney Airport, and Broncos coach Wayne Bennett when he was on a visit to Tamworth.
She says she was excited when she learnt Bennett was returning to Brisbane at the start of the year, but could never have imagined a premiership.
“I thought, ‘thank God, he’s back’, but I never thought about them winning; not in the first year,” Jodie said.
Now they’re just 80 minutes away from the title but, like a lot of Broncos supporters, Jodie says she wouldn’t be that upset if their opponents, the North Queensland Cowboys, were to claim the trophy.
“My heart says the Broncos, but I wouldn’t be disappointed if the Cowboys won,” she said.
“They’ve never won it, so it would be good to see them win their first.”
