She revealed on Facebook that she was "seriously excited" to be expecting a baby girl soon after Christmas. Weeks earlier, she had shared her love for the baby's father and her de facto partner of one year, Josh Homann.

"Its my mans birthday today, Happy birthday Joshy love ya head," she posted on June 17.

However, Mr Homann, 38, was in custody on Wednesday charged with Ms Dugo's murder.

Police will allege in court that a horrific fight occurred the couple's Mount Druitt home that left the heavily pregnant mother-of-four dead.

At about midnight, Mr Homann allegedly stabbed his 37-year-old partner repeatedly in the face and chest during a frenzied fight.

He sustained cuts from the fight and then attempted to jump out a window before fleeing in his car.

Soon after, Mr Homann walked into Mount Druitt police station and said he wanted to report a violent home invasion, however he was placed under police guard and taken to hospital.

He was released into police custody on Tuesday afternoon, before he was charged with one count of murder. He is due to appear in Mount Druitt Local Court on Wednesday.

Ms Dugo's former partner, June Henry, said she was an "independent strong lady" who helped him achieve his dream of becoming an executive chef for Woolworths' ALH Group.

"She was a genuine lady who I had a lot of respect for even til this day," he told Fairfax Media.

"She seriously had a heart of gold. She stuck by me and loved me unconditionally even after we broke up.

"She was always putting others before herself."

Another friend said Ms Dugo told her recently she was engaged to Mr Homann, however another friend had received texts from her saying she was going to leave him.

Forensic officers continued to comb the two-storey duplex home late into the afternoon on Tuesday.

Ms Dugo, who was identified in earlier media reports by her former married name, Paepaerei, is the 63rd woman to die from violence in Australia this year, according to Destroy The Joint's Counting Dead Women project.

A sign just around the corner from her Mount Druitt home urges community members to take a stand against domestic violence. 

"This community says NO to domestic violence," it says.
