IT WAS lovely to see former Tamworth musician Guy Kachel back in town just recently for the opening of his son Jordy’s restaurant.

Guy teamed with Tamworth drummer Ronny Rindo to provide some funky musical accompaniment on opening night of the city’s newest Mexican restaurant, Tortilla Cartel, at The Albert.
We could have stayed all night after we finished our meal, which was just delicious, but our table was needed.
They were totally booked out, which is a good sign for things to come. Good luck to Jordy and his team.
As with any Guy Kachel gig, it was somewhat of a musical reunion for fans, too, as I caught up with quite a few friends among the diners and listeners.
If you’re a fan of Mexican cuisine, you’ll love this place. Best to book, though.
WERRIS Creek songbird Marie Hodson always dreamed of recording an album with Stuie French and this week that dream has come true.
She’s midway through putting down the 11 tracks for her new album, Chances Are, behind those Swingin’ Doors in Sydney, and is keeping some pretty fine company.
They’ve recruited some of Australia’s greatest musicians for the task: the “Man of Steel” Michel Rose (my Mauritian cousin), bass player extraordinaire Ian Lees, the multi-talented Brad Bergen on drums, and of course, Stuie is contributing his tasty lead and acoustic guitar work.
Recording with Stuie, Marie has the added bonus of Camille Te Nahu’s divine harmony vocals included in the mix.
The end result should be a little beauty – pure, traditional country – with songs from the pen of the great Harlan Howard and Hank Cochran.
She’s also chosen to record a divine duet with Lachlan Bryan from the pen of Willie Nelson. It’s called Back to Earth.
Willie recorded the song a few years back with a female artist, Melonie Cannon. Jump onto YouTube and check out their version.
No wonder Marie couldn’t resist the temptation to include it on the new outing. Can’t wait to press play on the new CD.
A GIG to look forward to next week is a rare triple treat – the combination of Patti Morgan, Lynette Guest and Kerry Walsh.
They’re performing in the Bill Chambers Room at The Pub next Friday night, along with a hardworking band – Dally Croft on lead guitar, Mike Casey on bass and Joey Croft, driving the band from the drummer’s stool.
Patti and Lyn have been singing together for longer than even they can remember. Needless to say, they’re totally in sync.
Add to that the sultry country voice of Kerry Walsh, and you’ve got one heck of a line-up.
It’s another opportunity to enjoy some cool country in the capital.
