OXLEY Vale Attunga snatched the Southern Conference minor premiership from North Companions grasp with a three-goal win over their cross-town rivals on Saturday.
The reigning premiers went into their final round clash needing to win and also make up a three goal difference.
They accomplished both with a 4-1 win, the three-goal margin enough for them to pip Companions for top spot.
Jack Diebold slotted a double and Lachlan Browne and Adam Watson provided the extras as they also claimed the club championship and the Steve James Memorial Trophy.
The other uncertainty heading into Saturday was the make-up of the Northern Conference four with Demon Knights and South Armidale jostling for the final spot.
Both were pitted against sides sitting higher than them with DK taking on second-placed East Armidale and the Scorpions hosting conference leaders Joeys.
The Scorpions took it to the minor premiers but could only scramble a 0-0 draw.
It wasn’t enough though with DK rolling Easts 4-2 to secure fourth.
In the other Southern Conference games Tamworth FC had a 4-nil win over Namoi United at Johnson Field.
Michael Roberts, William Webb, Kobe Russell and Andrew James all found the back of the net in a game they had the run of pretty much from the whistle.
“We played well, but we’re not playing as well as we could,” FC coach Darryl Smith said. They led 3-nil at half-time on the back of goals to Webb, Russell and Roberts, but Namoi stayed in the game, Smith said.
He was again unhappy about the state of the field.
“The surfaces we’re playing on are shocking,” he said.
“They’re just hard, like rock.”
He said Zach Kam played well along with Jarrod Chester, Sam Williams and Roberts.
Gunnedah United won the other Southern Conference clash thrashing Moree 9-1.
Andy Cygan, Harley Cheetham and Sam Hos did the damage for Gunnedah with Cygan banging in four, Cheetham three and Hos a double.
