Gunnedah artist Anthony Conlan started painting a mural on Tuesday with the theme of reconciliation.
Milestones Oxley Vale manager Tish Booby said the mural would be an “amazing contribution” to the centre, and should be finished today.
“After NAIDOC Week, we decided we needed to incorporate more Aboriginal culture into our service, to really instil a sense of belonging and an understanding of our history with the children in our care,” she said.
“I think when children are young, that’s where their learning starts; the things that they value when they’re young, they carry with them their whole lives.
“It’s important we give them these values, so they have them into their lives.
“They’ve loved watching Anthony and talking to him about it.”
“One of our grandparents, we have a really good relationship with him and he recommended Anthony as fabulous artist - which he is.”
