The Neil Wood-coached side has already become the first Tamworth junior side to win a Country Championship after its June long weekend victory.
Later this month it chases a Country Premier League (CPL) title in Gosford when it plays Newcastle Hunters in a semi-final.
Winning that secures it a final berth against the loser of the Central Coast and Western Reds sides while also earning it a start in the State Under 14 Championships against the top metro sides.
While the CPL and State titles beckon, the side has already qualified for the National Club Championships in Perth from September 23.
Last year the Greg O’Toole-coached Tamworth Thunderbolt Under 14 girls became the first Tamworth side to reach a national club title tournament and this year the 14 boys have followed on from that trailblazing effort.
The 14 girls were the only Tamworth side in the CPL last year too whilst the 14 boys have been one of five teams in this year’s CPL.
To qualify for the National Club Championships is outstanding but it also costs a lot of money to fly the team from Tamworth to Perth and back.
“We are looking at between $25,000 to $30,000 to get the boys over there,” Wood said.
“When you look at air flights (Tamworth to Sydney and then Sydney to Perth and return) as well as accommodation for eight days, fees and costs of the carnival, car hire costs, food and everything it’s about $3000 per player.
“So it’s going to be a costly exercise for parents, especially if they are going on top of that.”
So the side is looking for a major sponsor to help defray all those costs.
“We’ve also got a few fundraisers planned,” Wood said.
The first of those fundraisers will be held in Tamworth this weekend when the Tamworth Basketball Association hosts the Northern Junior Finals in the Tamworth Sportsdome.
“We’ve got a BBQ and raffles running out there,” Wood said.
