Entry is free and open to the whole community. BBQ catering will be available, with the game kicking off at 6pm.
The training match is part of the Newcastle Jets’ High Performance Training Camp taking place in Armidale from July 29-August 1, UNE Life director David Schmude said.
“Five of the Northern Inland Premier League’s top players have been selected to join the Jets on field,” he said.
“The boys are looking forward to testing their abilities with A-league players and the match officials are excited about the opportunity provided to them.”
The local players are Cody Watts from South United and Callan MacGregor (Demon Knights) and three University of New England (UNE) students – Hoani Morell from East Armidale Club, Declan Druitt (Norths United) and Navid Aminian from South United.
Travis Heffernan, a student at UNE and number one ranked NIFPL referee, will referee the game.
Morell, a UNE Education student, is thrilled to be running on field with a team of this calibre.
“I just can’t wait and I’m very grateful to SportUNE and the Armidale Council for having the foresight to bring an A-League team to Armidale,” he said.
During the three-day training camp, the community will have the opportunity to meet the Jets players and coaching staff over a number of planned events and appearances.
