Aaron Leigh Collins was captured by police after a foot pursuit through Coledale on Sunday night and has been refused bail in court, after he was charged with two offences by detectives.
On Sunday night, police received information Collins was hiding at a Bourne St home and attended just after 8pm, but the accused allegedly ran from the home in a bid to escape several officers, scaling a number of fences before he was arrested.
The 31-year-old had been wanted by police since last week, after investigators allegedly traced him to the scene of a home invasion in Petra Ave in the early hours of July 21.
Police will allege Collins was one of eight who surrounded and stormed the home and robbed a 46-year-old father of prescription drugs, as well as other prescription medication from the man’s 26-year-old son.
During the incident, the 46-year-old was stabbed in the back, while the younger man was assaulted at the back of the house.
Following investigations, Collins was charged on Monday with one count of robbery in company causing wounding and one of robbery in company and has been in custody ever since.
Yesterday, Collins was handcuffed and led into the dock of Tamworth Local Court by two Corrective Services officers, where his case was briefly mentioned.
Collins’ solicitor made no application for bail and it was formally refused by Magistrate Michael Holmes, who adjourned the case to next month.
A brief of evidence has been ordered. The court heard the case would be transferred to the DP to prosecute, because of the serious nature of the attack.
A number of Collins’ family and friends were also in court for the brief proceedings.
On Friday, Oxley detectives released images of two men, including Collins, wanted for questioning over the stabbing and home invasion.
At the time, Oxley Detective Acting Inspector Jason Darcy said the victims were recovering but were distressed, and police wanted public help to make inroads into the violent incident and arrest those involved.
One man, wanted by investigators for questioning, has not been found and is being urged to contact Tamworth police.
