ON THE one-year anniversary, The Leader can also reveal Mr Turner has been added to the International Ranger Federation roll of honour for rangers killed in the line of duty.

On Friday, as part of World Ranger Day, Mr Turner will be remembered on an international scale for the work he did, as will about 60 others killed on the job in several countries.

But, closer to home, today will be tough.

“Without a doubt, we will never forget Glen,” friend and colleague Ben Hanks told The Leader.

Mr Hanks said friends and colleagues would get together today to relive the funny moments and the memories of the man taken so suddenly.

“A few of his colleagues and friends will gather for lunch to remember Glen,” he said.

“Not only did he have a strong personality and was a good friend for many years, he was just Glen.”

The DPI Agriculture Station, where many former colleagues of Mr Turner are now based, will also fly the flag at half mast today.

“The Office of Environment and Heritage (OEH) will mark the anniversary of our friend and workmate’s death with individual events at local offices, where staff will share stories and morning tea,” an OEH spokesman said.

“Recently, OEH worked with Glen’s family to place a chair in Glen’s memory in Port Macquarie overlooking his favourite beach, and soon the winner of a scholarship at Newcastle University established in his honour will be announced. 

“We will also take time to acknowledge the courage of our workmate who was with Glen on the day he was killed.”
