For economic reasons as much as any other, the NSW government cannot afford to treat Sydney's public transport users with anything less than the utmost care and regard. The city's economy and structure are changing rapidly. The finance and professional services sectors are carving out an increased share of the city's output; so too are the health and education sectors. These industries are social; they expand through contact with themselves and others. They are therefore concentrating around established hubs, including in the Central Business District, in Parramatta, in Macquarie Park, and in the inner south, helping to make Sydney's denser plots of land denser still.
