Outspoken Tasmanian independent Jacqui Lambie is coming for mainland Australia with plans to run Senate candidates across the country at the next election.

Senator Lambie wants around 12 "highly independent" candidates to exploit her rapidly growing profile with voters.

"I guess if I have my own brand that could really lift them," said Senator Lambie, whose recent work includes a joke likening Greens to Islamic State terrorists and a clunky video attacking the Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce.

She is inviting potential candidates for the Jacqui Lambie Network to contact her and said she hoped about half would be Defence Force veterans, who were underrepresented in federal Parliament.

"Using your brand, using your own nous … I don't know where it will go, I'm yet to see, but I'm going to give it a shot," Lambie told Fairfax Media.

"I'll give some others an opportunity to make their mark in politics. I've got nothing to lose and I can let other people who put up their hand have a run."

Senator Lambie, who registered her own party after quitting the Palmer United Party, indicated that candidates in her network should be political mavericks like herself.

"I would expect them to be highly independent and they're going to have to help themselves," she said.

A minimum of two Senate candidates are planned for each state, except perhaps South Australia.

"I'm not quite sure about SA yet because I don't want to tread on Nick (Xenophon)'s toes, take any votes from him," she said.

Elected in 2013, Senator Lambie would not face the voters herself until 2019, unless there was a double-dissolution election.

Her growing support has been cited by senior Liberal commentator Michael Kroger as a caution against calling a double dissolution in which a Senate quota to win a position would halve.

"You take a state like Tasmania where Jacqui Lambie is a bit of a cult figure," said Mr Kroger, state president of the Liberals' Victorian division.

"Lambie could arguably win a minimum of two and possibly three seats in the Senate on current polling down there," Mr Kroger told Sky Agenda. "She's going to poll around 23 or 24 per cent of the vote."

Election analyst Ben Raue said Senator Lambie appeared to lack the number of supporters on the ground who would prove critical on federal election day.

"Yes she's got a profile, but there's not much evidence of a party base," said Mr Raue who writes the Tally Room blog.

"She may well think she can get someone elected in every state, but what may prove of greater advantage for her in running candidates across the country are the Senate preference swaps she can organise.
