As if Tuesday night’s 122-point loss against Tamworth Roos in a postponed match wasn’t tough enough in the cold, the Swans now travel to Armidale tomorrow to tackle competition leaders New England Nomads.
The Nomads have not only won the last three TAFL flags but are coming off a big winning run that saw them annihilate Gunnedah Bulldogs in their most recent outing.
A 230-point win, where the Nomads kicked 37.15 237 to the Bulldogs’ 1.1 7, has the Zac Economou-coached side primed for another big win.
The Nomads also had a dozen players in last Saturday’s TAFL representative side that lost by 13 points to North Coast at Bellevue Oval.
Players such as Jed Ellis-Cluff, Dave Richards and Thomas Hunt have been in dominant form for the Nomads in recent weeks.
The Swans didn’t have a representative in the TAFL team and are struggling.
But while they are struggling, they are doing it with pride and commitment.
There was plenty of effort evident on Tuesday night when they were overrun by the slick Roos machine.
“It’s going to be a tough week,” Swans club president Josh McKenzie admitted Tuesday night after the 22.12 144 to 4.2 26 loss.
“It’s going to be an even tougher game up there. We have to bring the same intensity that we showed tonight.
“If we can do that against the Nomads then we will compete well against the Eagles and Saints in the next couple of games.”
While the Swans head up to Armidale this Saturday to play the Nomads, Inverell Saints host Narrabri Eagles in what is a big weekend for not only the Saints and Eagles but also the Gunnedah Bulldogs, who play the Moree Suns at home and who also sit equal third on points with both the Saints and Eagles.
