The Swans have not beaten the Roos in half a dozen years and the Roos showed they weren’t going to drop their guard after a brilliant start to the game, winning 22.12 144 to 4.2 26.
It was all started by new Roos recruit, Brandon McRedmond, who grabbed the ball in the centre of the ground, raced downfield and unloaded with a big six-point bomb.
Four more quick “snapped” goals followed to highlight the precision with which the Roos players have been kicking.
“It pretty much continued on from our win against the Narrabri Eagles here,” Roos coach Tony Bishop said.
“The Swans competed well but we had too many guns for them. We kicked some nice goals tonight.
“The boys shared it around tonight.
They did it as a team so that was pleasing.”
He thought Mitchell Penberthy had another big game along with the likes of Matt Hodge, McRedmond, and Brad Rees.
“Rhett Graham played well again as did Daniel Leon.
“Zeb Taylor worked hard too but the enthusiasm was there as well and we did finish well again.
“Overeem (Dan), Hoy (Dean), Toner (Liam) and Pollock (Chris) were good and Carl Frazier is normally a fullback for us but played in the ruck.
“He seems to be quite as happy there as at the back.”
Tamworth Swans club president Josh McKenzie said the Swans are lacking in numbers.
“We do have quite a few young and inexperienced players,”he said.
“They all tried hard to make it a contest and did that pretty well.
“They all had a go.”
Trumaine Rankmore, Jack Abbott and the Kelly boys, Thomas and Cooper, all played well.
“The Kelly boys are only juniors but they stepped up for us,” McKenzie said.
While the Roos now have a bye this weekend the Swans head up to Armidale this Saturday to play the Nomads.
Inverell Saints host Narrabri Eagles in a big joust for third while Gunnedah Bulldogs, also equal with Narrabri and Inverell, host Moree Suns at Wolseley Park.
