It was far from the usual morning TV show fare – Urban not only replaced regular host Kochie in the chair, but jumped on a mechanical bull to show off his country skills.
But the real excitement for Tamworthians came when presenter Mark Beretta called on questions from the crowd and pointed out signs calling for him to headline next year’s Country Music Festival.
One star-struck fan asked Urban if he would grace Tamworth during his Australian tour next year, with wife and Academy Award-winning actress Nicole Kidman in tow.
“I’d like to. Nic and the girls have never been to Tamworth – I’d like to take them sometime,” Urban said.
Mr Beretta highlighted blue placards reading “Tamworth has an Urban craving” and “Keith, Tamworth wants you” – which were affixed with newspaper stories from The Leader calling for the singer to “come on down”.
“This is an orchestrated campaign by Tamworth to get you and Nic and the kids there,” Mr Beretta said.
“It’s working,” Urban responded.
Mr Beretta all but locked in Urban for a Tamworth appearance.
“It’ll happen...shall we just lock that in for next year? Tamworth? We’ll come as well, now that we’re all mates, we’ll all come,” Mr Beretta said.
“We’ll do Sunrise in Tamworth on the morning of Keith’s concert – I think it’s a no brainer.”
“I’ll take the whole lot,” Urban said.
Sunrise co-host Samantha Armytage chimed in: All right, lock it in Tamworth. We’ll be there.”
Urban’s appearance echoed his sentiment published in The Leader last fortnight, when he told the visiting Tamworth Regional Council delegates to Nashville said he would love to bring wife Nicole Kidman and his daughters to the city that was so significant to his career.
