They were too good for Robb College, overwhelming the students 24-8.
“We are starting to hit some form and it’s good to see,” Baa Baas co-coach Brett Monley said.
He and Sam Piddington were very happy with what they saw from them.
“All round, the boys played pretty well,” Monley said.
It wasn’t a case of the forwards playing well, or the backs.
It was good running rugby across the board.
“It was won by the whole team,” Monley said.
They set the foundation in the first half.
“We were leading at half-time 17-8 so didn’t concede a point in the second half,” he said.
It’s the third consecutive game they’ve done that and was all the more satisfying for the fact they were in the same situation last time they played Robb.
“Last time we played Robb we were leading at half-time and we let them back in in the second half,” Monley said.
“We reminded them of that at half-time and that we can’t go to sleep.”
They also spoke about being patient.
“We scored some good tries,” he said.
He said Mitch Cooper was outstanding for them at inside centre.
The former league star has been great for them the last three weeks particularly, in either centre role.
Last week he was strong for them at outside centre.
“He’s starting to pick up the game,” Monley said.
They picked him up after having a run in their Summer 7s competition.
Luke Heagney also had a great game on the side of the scrum, as did Sam Gates at the back of it.
It would be a rare week the number eight doesn’t get a mention as one of their best.
They’ve got a big game this week – taking on competition leaders Armidale.
“That will be a physical game,” Monley said.
The Blues defeated Glen Innes in the other game on Saturday 31-nil to stretch out to 14 points clear at the top and lock up a top two spot.
