The Narrabri hardware store salesman was playing in the annual baseball carnival on the weekend with the JC’s Legends tribute teams.
Formed to commemorate the memory of Tamworth’s Mr Baseball, John Carter, the JC Legends had three sides playing in the biggest ever June Carnival with 44 teams in six divisions, playing on 13 grounds in a total of 133 games.
Steve Davison, Tom’s father and one of the founders of the JC Legends, is an old Tamworth baseballer enjoying another big weekend.
“Tom’s played the last four or five years with us,” Steve Davison said.
“It’s the first time he’s pitched though and didn’t go too bad.
“He hasn’t played regular baseball for the last two or three years, just plays in this.
“We’ll get to play together at some stage over the weekend,” said Steve who is more comfortable in the manager’s chair.
“But that’s what it’s about – kids playing with their parents and the boys and girls all playing together as well.
“Tom just likes the chance to come over and hang out with the older guys in our team like Shakey (Robert Handsaker) and Kingy (Dave King) and the Wise boys,” Davison said.
The JC Legends B Division side has won all of its games so far and will play today’s B Division Final on the Chris Parsons Diamond at 11am.
They will honor John Carter’s memory with a minute’s silence before that game. Davidson welcomes all who knew Carter to join them at the ground.
