The students have been hand chosen by Tamworth’s Kristi Cini, the Australian liaison officer for the Broadway Dance Center (BDC).
“The group is made up of dancers aged between 14 and 18 years of age who attend Armidale and Tamworth high schools,” Ms Cini said.
She said they will be performing a lyrical routine, a mix of contemporary ballet and jazz that has challenged and furthered the girls’ abilities.
“It is a routine new to them all but they have mastered it.”
For their efforts they will be sharing a stage with some of
Australia’s rising young talents at Sydney’s Luna Park on June 14 during the Don’t Dis Disabilities Dance Extravaganza.
Headlining the event is singer, songwriter, producer and choreographer Tim “Timomatic” Omaji, Brothers Three, Caitlyn Shadbolt, Lily V and Briden Starr.
The girls are still chipping away at the other challenge attending the event has presented them.
Raising money to help cover the cost of the trip and their accommodation.
“They have been selling chocolate; lots and lots of chocolate and I’m really excited to say Challenge Tamworth have very kindly agreed to loan us their mini bus to get us there,” Ms Cini said.
“That is a massive help and I can’t thank them enough.”
An estimated 300 dancers will be involved in the one-night-only Sydney event to raise money so the Special Olympics dancers can travel to the USA to train in dance at BDC.
